Welly and his Forever Home

7 years ago we brought home this tiny sweet Sulcata tortoise, we've loved him, nourished him and he is the love of my life.

 We have made the heart breaking decision to re home sweet Welly Woozle.

 Moving to Washington with a desert tortoise is not the best idea. Selfishly I want to bring him, but he would not be happy. He loves to be outside but its has to be of a high temp. I cant bare to leave him inside for more than half a year at a time. He HATES it, he is not shy to show me either:)

 I started looking for his forever home a few months ago, it didn't go well. The first time someone asked me "Do you have to give it water", I decided that re homing him was no longer an option for me. He is a huge part of me and my family, my girls have grown up with him around and the main point is that I love him. I will not give my baby to just anyone, not going to happen, nope, not never.

 Watching him getting more and more upset in his inside house, I tried one more time to find his forever home. I found a rescue place at the Zoo (Zoo's will not take him) anyway I told my story to this wonderful lady and she said she will help me...... About a week later I hear from her and she said that one of her friends have decided that she has room for Wellly.  My.Heart.Sank I was happy, but sad. Then the friend emailed me and she is absolutely wonderful, not only is she a lovely person she is also a Sulcata tortoise lover. She has 6 of them and lives on a big ranch, her and her husband have built a massive habitat for these wonderful creatures. She has a website on how to care for them and she posts videos of the "sulcata house" and Wellys new siblings. My heart was finally happy, he was going home and I know he will be happy. Every tortoise should go here, I don't regret one second of my time with him, I would do it all over again.

 Oh the fun we have had with this gentle giant. We love you Welly, when I drop you off to your forever Mummy tomorrow, my heart will break just a little bit. Who am I kidding, I will be crying like a baby, I just love you so much.

 We will still keep in contact with Steph and she is going to send us updated pictures when she can, such a happy/sad just plain emotional ending.  You know you have tears in your eyes!!
